Assuring Safety for Physically Assistive Robots Workshop

Topics for Contribution


We encourage you to contribute to the workshop, please submit an extended abstract of your research for either presenting a short talk (4 pages) or to showcase your research in the poster sessions (2 pages). 
The topics of interest include:

• Safe collaborative robotics in human physical assistance applications
• Risk assessment and hazard analysis when bringing assistive robotics to real-world environments (homes, care facilities and hospitals)
• Hazard analysis approaches, capability to deal with uncertainty, context awareness
• Stakeholders (End-users, carers, relatives, therapists, clinicians) requirements in safe human-robot interaction
• Regulation compliance for safety in physically assistive robotics
• Verification and Validation of human-robot interaction systems for physically assistive robots
• Robot capabilities for self-assessment of operational safety and risk management
• Estimation of probabilities and models of unintended behaviours by both robots and humans
• Approaches for modelling and assessing safety of physically assistive robots
• User trust and safe human-robot interaction, including accessibility issues for people with disabilities

Short Talks


We invite contributions for a 10-minute talk on ongoing research with experimental results. Eight submissions will be selected by the organisers based on relevance to the workshop and quality of the research. 

Abstracts for the short talks should be 4 pages, prepared using the IEEE double column format. Please submit your abstract to praminda.caleb-solly@brl.ac.uk with the Subject: IROS2019 Safety Short Talk submission [Name of Lead Author]

If you are not successful in being selected for the short talks, you will be invited to join the poster session.

Poster Session


We invite contributions for poster presentations of early ideas, experimental results and open research questions.

Abstracts for the poster session should be 2 pages, prepared using the IEEE double column format. Please submit your abstract to praminda.caleb-solly@brl.ac.uk with the Subject: IROS2019 Safety Poster submission [Name of Lead Author]

Paper Publication


We hope to shortly announce a peer-reviewed special issue on Assuring Safety for Physically Assistive Robots for a journal that will be linked to this workshop. Authors of an accepted short talk or poster to the workshop will be invited to submit a revised and substantially extended version of their paper to the special issue. All contributions t the special issue will be duly peer reviewed and only accepted papers will be published in the journal.
